A
s withmuch of the history of Plenco, certain family
surnames recur in its 80-plus years of existence. The
surname “Goode” first joined the company logs in
1956 with
James Goode
(Retired) and continues today with
the father-sonduoof
JohnGoode
(Resin) and
JamesGoode
(Resin).
The first member to join Plenco was James, who began
his career in December of 1956 and continued for 35
years until retiring in May of 1991. He held a variety
of positions in the company, from being a Resin
Grinder/Packer and working in Shipping and
Receiving, to working in the research area in
the Sand Lab and in the Resin Research and
Development Lab.
He and his wife of 54 years, Violet
(deceased February 2012), enjoyed
many of the family aspects of the
company including the picnics,
the Christmas party and taking
part in the golf events.
Son John began his Plenco
career in January of 2006, and
after working in the BulkMolding
Compoundplant asboth a
packer and operator,
switched to being a
Resin Cook on the mid-
night-8 am shift, a posi-
tionhe holds to this day.
John has beenmarried to his wife Louise for 31 years, and
also enjoys what the company has to offer. In his free time he
enjoys campingwithhis family, huntingdeerwithbothgun and
bow, fishing, gardening and like his father-golf. When asked
about what he liked about working at Plenco, he quickly cited
being greeted on a first name basis at the office with a hand-
shake, and that he enjoys his fellow employees verymuch.
Bringing a third generation of the Goode name into the
Plenco family is James Goode, who joined just this year
in July as a Resin Cook Trainee. A unique situation is that he
works in the same job, department and shift as his father John,
allowing them to spent time together at work aswell.
When not cooking resins on the midnight shift, James
enjoysmanyof the same activities ashisdad includinghunting
and fishing, camping and also hiking with his dog. When
discussing his impressions of Plenco, the youngest Goode
said that he was impressed with how the company is
constantly adapting tomeet needs and changes, and
views Plenco as a company with high demand for
its products.
Whendiscussing the family legacy amongst the
Goode familymembers, son James alsonoted the
uniquenessof having such a largenumberof older
workers who have worked with all of them,
including his grandfather.
Perhaps the most telling perspective
of their family history with the
company comes from John Goode,
speaking from theperspectiveof the
middle about father James, and his
son James. “I never thought I would
see it,” he said. “I didnot work
with my dad; he retired
before Iwas employed
at Plenco. But I do
remember the picnics
at EvergreenPark.”
Continuing speaking
about his son James, John noted, “I like that James works the
12-8 shiftwithmebecausehe livesonhisownnow.He andhis
dog Boone stop over more, which makes his mother very
happy,” adding lightheartedly, “but Idon’t like itwhenhe stops
and eats all our food!”
With John being 53 years old and son James being 25, the
Goode family name will continue for many years in Plenco’s
history. Andwho knows, perhaps in time a fourth generation
will join the Plenco family!
